We had a terrific thunderstorm early this morning around 6:00. We believe lightning struck a transformer near our house at 6:10a. Bright flash, loud noise, VERY loud thunder.....no power. No power meant I didn't get up on time, so my neighborhood walk/run was delayed. I left the house at 7:33a (still no power), and before I could do a 1/4-mile lots of floodlights & porchlights sprang to life. It was pretty cool, actually, to see them all come on at the same time.
So, I'm walking, my mind is rambling, & then I notice how many people were running behind this morning. Cars that should have long since departed to shuttle kids to school & parents to work were still sitting idle in their driveways. People were given the opportunity to appreciate a functioning alarm clock this morning. Hmmmm, clocks. I got to thinking about something The Husband has said over & over, "When you reach the point in your life when you HAVE to wear a watch, the most fun years of your life are over." While I don't totally agree with his statement, I mean I'm almost 41 & have had to be a time keeper for decades, but I still have lots of fun....I do see his point. When I got home I started noticing HOW MANY clocks we have in our house. Let's see....we have 3 in the kitchen, 2 in our bedroom, 1 in our bathroom, 1 in Miss M's room, 1 in the livingroom, 1 in the schoolroom. Plus, each of our phones & each of our computers. Man, that's A LOT of clocks. You'd think we'd be punctual ALL THE TIME.
I give you the almighty clock, a necessary evil....
